Best Free Android Apps for Network Professionals

network professionals often find themselves on call. All too often, something just pops up during these periods on call who could quickly be resolved with the right tools. As a result, many network managers find themselves dragging around a laptop "just in case." However, Android phones are now capable of running a series of network applications that can greatly simplify and speed improves. While they will not replace the PC version and will not always solve your problem, these seven applications were necessary for a network of professional and May even save you from pulling out your laptop.

Ping

This handy little program does exactly what its name suggests. Need to quickly see if the host, if you do? Ping will ping the IP or DNS name. Ping is a pretty basic networking tools so this program is as useful as the PC version.

HTTPing

All you need to go beyond the basic ping to see if the host is working properly? For example, you may need to see if the website is actually down or not? HTTPing will send the number of HTTP requests leader in web server you specify to see if the web server is up and serving pages. This is a great tool if you are responsible for one or more web servers.

ConnectBot

Have you ever wanted a simple quick Secure Shell in the box to restart the service or do some other quick fix? Thanks ConnectBot, you can with the Android phone! Thing I found most challenging about ConnectBot is figuring out how to send the ESC key in the sixth. (Tap on the screen during the session and key touch ESC will appear). ConnectBot is incredibly capable of SSH client. I personally use this tool regularly.

Network Discovery

Network Discovery is a nice little program with a very nice interface. It will scan the network for devices and show you the IP addresses and names of all the devices are located. It is also quite accurate in detecting the type of device. On my network is properly marked my AT & T router as the router, but see my network printer as a additional računalo.Lijepo this program is that if a contact entry, it will move to a new screen and do a scan on that device. It scans the most commonly used to scan ports and which is not adjustable, but it's still a nice feature.

Luka Scandroid

If you need to configure a port scan or scan a range of ports, Port Scandroid the tools you need. You can enter the IP or DNS name and starting and stopping the port range and this tool will make scanning, displaying all the open ports. Although this tool is very handy and free, it does have one annoying feature, the phone will be held in portrait alignment to start the scan and if you flip the phone during a horizontal scan, the scan stops.

Android VNC Viewer

This application is simply amazed me the first time I saw him. If you are using VNC remotely control the machine, this program is for you. This is a free implementation of VNC viewer that allows you to remotely run a machine running VNC server. It takes some getting used to the free, because the screen is so small and the Control-Alt-Delete sequence is a bit tricky at first on a touch screen. However, if you just need to do something quickly, this tool will be invaluable.

Wifi Analyzer

This is one of my favorite tools for finding an open WiFi network when I'm out there, but it is also very useful as a tool for solving problems. Wifi Analyzer draws map of WiFi networks in range of shows their relative signal strength and which channels are configured on. It also indicates the closed and open networks. It also will recommend channel noise reduction based on what channels are in use.
